The first thing you need to know to access email is your user name. Your user name is derived in the same way as WebCT, and is the same as your WebCT logon. Add together, in all lower case, the first two letters of your first name + the first two letters of your last name + the last four digits of your student ID, as shown in the following example of a student named 'New Guy':

The second thing you need to know is the password. We use the same procedure as WebCT for the initial password. If you were in a class that used WebCT in Fall 2004, use the same password as you used then for the first logon. I will not tell you here what that was, as some hacker could read it, then try all the possible combinations of letters & numbers to hack our email. If you don't remember or you weren't in a WebCT class contact the Administrator. Passwords are very important for maintaining the security of your account -- you should change it when you first logon, and at first signs of anything suspicious happening to your account.
Third, you need to know where to put #1 & #2 to get to your mailbox. There are several ways to do this third step. The first way is to click on a shortcut or a hyperlink -- http://webmail.machtech.org -- this will take you directly to the Web Mail logon screen and save you several steps.
The second way is on any computer
that is connected to the Internet, find the Internet Explorer icon on the
desktop 
& double click on it. This will open up the Internet Explorer application:

The page that opens is the default page for the browser in the computer you are using. We need to change the 'address' to the one we want. Depending on the browser settings you may not see the Address Text Box. If that's the case, you will need to turn that feature on. Click on the 'View' main menu item, then on 'Toolbars' sub-menu item, and then click before the 'Address Bar' to put a check mark in front to activate the bar:

You should now have an 'Address' text box visible. Click in the box to activate it, and type 'http://webmail.machtech.org' (without the ' signs), and then press the 'Enter' key:

Depending on computer settings, you may receive a warning you are being directed to a secure website -- click the 'Ok' button to continue to the logon page. In the 'Email Address' text box enter your logon name and add a '@machtech.org' (without the ' signs) directly after it:

Before entering your password
anywhere, you should look at the bottom of the window and check for the 
icon. This indicates you are using a 'Secure' connection -- if it is not there
do not continue on that computer. Then in the 'Password' text box type your
password. It is case sensitive, so watch the 'Caps Lock' key setting. The
computer will mask your entries and only ****'s will show on the screen. Click
the 'Log In Now' button to go to your mailbox:

You will initially be prompted to choose how you want to deal with 'Spam'. There are two choices, pick one, and click the 'Submit' button to continue:

You should now be in your mailbox:
